Jameel Heywood

Founder & Head Trainer

A Virgin Islands native, Jameel started playing basketball in the Virgin Islands at 10 years of age. He moved to The Bronx at 13 where he attended Evander Childs High School.  Jameel was named the 1995 Bronx Player of the Year his junior year and  1996 New England Player of the Year his senior year, when he transferred to Salisbury School in Connecticut.

 

 Jameel's collegiate career began at Coffeyville Community College where he was named Second Team All-Jayhawk Conference his freshman and sophomore year. He then transferred to the University of Oklahoma (OU) and played for Coach Kelvin Sampson. During his time as an Oklahoma Sooner, the team won the Big 12 Championship and made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.

 

 In 2001, Jameel connected with Jose Paris, a FIBA agent, and went on to have a 10-year professional career. He has played in 12 different countries including Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela, South Korea, Poland and Chile. Jameel also had the privilege of playing for the Virgin Islands National Team for several years and the opportunity to play against numerous NBA players.

 

After retiring from professional basketball, Jameel went back to OU to complete his bachelor’s degree.  He then moved to Central Florida and started coaching youth basketball leagues. Jameel eventually found his passion for player development and founded Madlegz in 2008. Since then, Jameel has helped numerous players get athletic scholarships to fulfill their basketball goals as well as receive a college education.

Continuous Growth.

Coach Heywood is a certified trainer under Phil Handy's 94 Feet of Game Basketball Program. 

All trainers regularly attend coaching and training clinics to stay in pace with the modern style of play.
