Jameel Heywood
Founder & Head Trainer
A native of the British Virgin Islands, Jameel Heywood began playing basketball at the age of 10 before moving to the Bronx, New York, at 13 to pursue his academic and athletic goals. His talent earned him Bronx Player of the Year honors in 1995 and New England Player of the Year honors in 1996 while attending Salisbury Preparatory School in Connecticut.
Jameel continued his basketball journey at Coffeyville Community College, where he earned Second Team All-Jayhawk Conference honors in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. He later transferred to the University of Oklahoma, playing under Coach Kelvin Sampson. During his time as a Sooner, the team won the Big 12 Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2001. He was also inducted into the Coffeyville Men's Basketball Hall of Fame.
In 2001, Jameel connected with Jose Paris, a FIBA agent, and went on to have a 10-year professional career. He has played in 12 different countries including Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela, South Korea, Poland and Chile. Jameel also had the privilege of playing for the Virgin Islands National Team for several years and the opportunity to play against numerous NBA players.
After retiring from professional basketball, Jameel went back to OU to complete his bachelor’s degree. He then moved to Central Florida and started coaching youth basketball leagues. Jameel eventually found his passion for player development and founded Madlegz in 2008. Since then, Jameel has helped numerous players get athletic scholarships to fulfill their basketball goals as well as receive a college education.
Jameel currently serves as the Director of Basketball Player Development and Associate Coach of the Prep National Team at Southeastern Preparatory Academy in Maitland, Florida. In these roles, he oversees comprehensive player development, evaluates talent, and contributes to the continued growth and success of the program. Additionally, he serves as a Senior Professional Basketball Instructor with the City of Altamonte Springs Parks and Recreation and as an International Basketball Development Trainer with MadLegz, where he specializes in individual skill development, basketball IQ, and performance enhancement.
Jameel’s coaching experience extends internationally to the Caribbean, where he has served as head coach representing Tortola at the King of the Court Tournament since 2025. In his first year, he guided the team to the championship game in 2025 before leading Tortola to a championship title in 2026. Jameel remains committed to community engagement and youth development, providing basketball camps for young athletes in Tortola and helping them grow both on and off the court.
His success continue as he won the FSBC Central Division title in 2026 as the associate head coach at Southeastern Preparatory Academy.
Jameel created the MadLegz Senior Showcase, hosting annual events from 2021 to 2024 to highlight high school senior talent and connect players with opportunities to advance their basketball careers. These showcases were sponsored by former Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy and attended by ESPN National Recruiting Director Paul Biancardi.
With more than 15 years of player development experience, Jameel remains committed to evolving with the modern game while developing disciplined, confident, and fundamentally sound athletes. His mission through MadLegz is simple: to develop complete players, create opportunities, and help athletes turn their basketball potential into lasting success on and off the court.

Jordan Stewart
Coach & Assistant Trainer
A native of Sanford, Florida, Jordan Stewart met Jameel Heywood at the age of 10, beginning a mentorship that would shape both his basketball career and his future. Under Jameel’s guidance, Jordan developed throughout high school, earning the opportunity to attend Lake Mary Preparatory School, where he graduated and became a team captain, team MVP, and made the Florida Athletic Coaches Association 3A All-State selection team.
Jordan continued his basketball career at Trinity College of Florida, earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Sports in 2022. During his collegiate career, he earned multiple honors, including Team MVP, NIT All-Tournament Team, and NIT Slam Dunk Champion, while leading his team to win 2 national invitational tournament championships.
Rather than pursue a professional basketball career overseas, Jordan chose to learn from his mentor and dedicate himself to developing the next generation of athletes. Since 2017, he has worked with MadLegz, progressing from assistant trainer to AAU head coach and helping organize camps, showcases, and player development programs.
Today, Jordan is committed to helping build the MadLegz brand and giving back to the community that helped shape him. Inspired by the guidance and opportunities Jameel provided throughout his journey, Jordan strives to pay that investment forward by mentoring young athletes, developing their skills, and helping them reach their full potential on and off the court.
Continuous Growth.
